Our Hooeymoon | Cabo San Lucas Travel Guide

To think that David and I almost didn’t have a honeymoon makes me sick! Of course, at the time we had our reasons – like just closing on our home, paying off the wedding, and obviously all the unknown of just being in a pandemic. As the months went by we decided that we would make a final decision towards the end of May of what we were going to do. Mind you our wedding was at the beginning of July (July 3rd to be exact) so this gave us literally no time to truly plan a full vacation.

Once May finally rolled around we were in dire need of a vacation! We were dealing with all of the wedding planning drama, working full time, trying to make our house a home, and to top it all off I just completed a full semester (9 hours) load of graduate school. Being that we both felt we truly needed a break from everything that was going on and hadn’t had a vacation since 2018 we made the final call to book a honeymoon! We checked our location options that fell within our allotted budget (we had a flight credit from canceling out 2020 Hawaii Trip). We debated between a few locations like Bahamas or Jamaica, but ultimately landed on Cabo San Lucas for two main reasons – 1) the flights were pretty inexpensive from Houston to Cabo and even still left us with some of our flight credit, and 2) I fell in love with the J.W. Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort and Spa!

Once I showed David all of the pictures he was sold and told me to hurry and book our flights and room (honestly think I got the last room available for our dates). We decided since we were already planning to take days off after the wedding that we would just leave the next day, July 4th, and enjoy ourselves after a crazy year. Once we finished booking everything we were all set and counting down the days until we were in Cabo!

SUNDAY JULY 4THTRAVEL DAY

We used Sunday afternoon to be our travel day being that it was the day after the wedding and we didn’t want to risk anything by having an early flight. We landed in Los Cabos around 7 pm (their time zone is only an hour behind Central Time). After landing and going through customs (United Airlines was amazing enough to put a checklist of everything you need on the app before your trip and even helped all of the passengers fill out the remaining forms on the flight) we were picked up by our personal driver that was scheduled through the resort via email. Once we arrived we were able to quickly check in, book our covid tests (provided on-site) for us to fly back home later that week, and have a map of the resort to find some dinner. After having some dinner at one of the many restaurants provided on the resort, we headed back to the room (full room tour video provided under Monday) to get some rest after a long day/weekend!

MONDAY JULY 5TH – DAY 1

As our first official day on our honeymoon, we wanted to make sure we got everything squared away to fully enjoy our trip. We got up pretty early to head over to our complimentary buffet-style breakfast (10/10 recommend!). Once we were done eating we headed over to the office to book our excursions. I tried to book everything via email before our arrival, but with the craziness of the wedding and the resort emails continuously going in my spam folder, we decided to just book once we got there. Luckily we were able to get a list of the excursions offered and knew that we didn’t want to go too crazy. The purpose of this trip was to do practically nothing and be lazy for a week. We decided on ATVing and Luxury Sunset Sailing (I wanted a couples massage to be our 3rd activity, but the prices were too high for our liking so David booked us one for when we got home lol). Once the excursions were booked we headed off to explore the resort, take pictures and relax by the pool!

TUESDAY JULY 6TH – DAY 2

Day 2 was all about ATVing for us (plus it was all we could do that day since I ended up having a little accident lol)! Since we book through the resort our excursions guide set up for the company to pick us up from the lobby and take us to the excursion (believe this is done for any excursion you book). Once we arrived to the location our ATV Guide gave us clear instructions on how to use the ATV, explained that we had a route that we would be taking and gave us a beautiful tour of Los Cabos! This was David and I’s 2nd time ATVing together, but this one definitely beat the last! I mean just take a look at that water!

WEDNESDAY JULY 7TH – DAY 3

This was honestly our lazy day. We took several naps (hearing the waves hit from your bedroom does something to you for real) and ordered room service (the burgers and wings were hitting!). Later that afternoon to go take our COVID Tests downstairs and decided while we were out we might as well go and chill by the pool to get some sun. We actually ended up meeting another couple from Dallas (literally an older version of us which was really scary + the guys name was also David and his daughter currently goes to PV lol), got to know them in an exclusive part of the resort, made dinner plans with them and went off the resort to catch our reservations at the Sunset Monalisa: Ocean Terrace Location (10/10! Best truffle fries we’ve ever had, has a live jazz band inside the restaurant and also has an amazing view of the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas). We loved our little double date with our new Texas friends and soaked up as much wisdom from them as we could. As soon as we got to the room we couldn’t stop laughing because wherever we go David has to make new friends so his mood was so much better as if he accomplished his mission.

THURSDAY JULY 8TH – DAY 4

Since we only had our luxury sunset sailing excursion planned we decided to sleep in (got in kind of late the night before), catch the tail in of complimentary breakfast, and just binge watch Netflix. We didn’t even realize how long it had been since we did something as simple as binge watch Netflix, but we definitely watched all of the episodes of Too Hot To Handle the entire week! We were set to be picked up for our excursion until 4pm so we just settled for room service for lunch until it was finally time to head down to the lobby. We weren’t aware at the time, but we were the first resort stop for this event (set to be a max of 8 people on our boat) which actually gave us a chance to check out how all of the other resorts in the aware looked. Honestly speaking the JW Marriott was the best one (we were told this by several people after we booked, but it was great to see it with your own eyes)! Once we finally made it to the shipping dock, we were greeted by amazing tour guides that let us pick our own music (of course David picked Drake for everyone to listen to) and explained the rich history of Los Cabos. We got a chance to see the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas up close along with a couple of seals and manta rays. Overall, it was a great experience to be out on the water and see the sunset. I would highly recommend this excursion if you aren’t accustomed to getting a little sea sick.

FRIDAY JULY 9TH – DAY 5

Yet another relaxing day to conclude our honeymoon! We started the morning like any other by heading down for some breakfast and then going back up to the room to relax and then get ready to head back down to the pool. The JW Marriott also has menus for food and drinks while you are relaxing by the pool (even has a bar inside some of the pools; check it out on my IG Highlight @kaylashaehooey), so we ordered a small lunch since we had special plans lined up for a final evening in Los Cabos. We were able to work with the Conceirge to set up a romantic dinner right off the beach. We selected our menu and JW Marriott took care of the rest. Can’t think of a better way to close out our honeymoon!

SATURDAY JULY 10TH – TRAVEL HOME

We sadly left around 6am that morning to catch our flight and head back to Houston to finish moving me in/unboxing all of our amazing wedding gifts. This entire trip was everything we didn’t know we needed at the time, but so glad that we got this experience and could have an enjoyable honeymoon in such unpredictable times. We came home happy and healthy and that is all that we could really ask for!
