Our Registry Must Haves!

Tackling a registry, whether wedding or house warming, can be extremely challenging and strenuous. In our case, I started and stopped our registry more times than I can count. I quickly realized through the process that I had no clue what our home aesthetic would even be and needed to wait until I did in order to move forward with our registries. Looking back now, I have a few tips that can make the creation of your registry a walk in the park:

  1. Create a Plan! Start listing things that you actually need to start your marriage or what to look for when buying a house or a new home. This will help you discover if you need all new things because you’re starting fresh, like we did, or if there are items you would just like to replace because you’re merging homes. Luckily, many stores have pre-generated lists that would be beneficial to starting your registry, and when in doubt you could always start a fund, honeymoon for example, instead.
  2. Know Your Style/Aesthetic! This will allow for you to pick things that you actually love so that you don’t get gifts of things that you immediately want to take back to the store. Granted you will still end up getting gifts that are off your registry, but you at least know anything that comes off your registry you will be excited about! Take your time searching your different registry sites for things that you both love instead of just putting things on it just to fill it up.
  3. Select the Stores You Want to Create Your Registry or Registries! I personally did research and noticed that most people have at least 3 different registries (4 max) to give their guests, family and friends both online and in-store options (this is where ya girl comes in to help out!).
  4. Know What Site Platform You Want to Use! I personally created our wedding website using The Knot! I found their templates to be aesthically pleasing, their registry linking to be extremely easy, and overall experience to be user friendly. One feature I loved the most was being able to create a custom domain name (for example our wedding website we just used our hashtag and made our domain name hooeyeverafter.com) for only $20! Being that we needed our site to last a year plus we felt that this would obviously be an easy investment and would give us an easy website/URL name to share with family & friends during conversation. I do have other friends that have used Zola to create their wedding/house warming registries and loved it, so overall it is just up to personal preference.
