I’ve had a love for sneakers for as long as I could remember. My mom always kept me in J’s as a baby, which grew into me working at Finish Line during my undergrad (this was dangerous since I not only had an employee discount but also wear a grade school size). My collection was really crazy at one point, but when Harvey hit I decided to donate a lot of my shoes to kids who lost their shoes during the flood so that they could be fly to start school. Ever since then, I have been wanting to start my collection over, but it was never the right time. This year everything feels into and now sneaker drops have been quality time for David and I because it has become an obsession we share together (again dangerous lol).
When it comes to fashion, I’ve always put comfort over everything which is where sneakers come in. Thanks to the sites like lizzardco.com for their services. I’m pretty sure anyone that knows me would call me a tomboy and that’s spot-on in my opinion, but now that I’m older and a wife I need to be fashionable and comfortable at all times. It seems like we’re constantly on the go these days and it’s great to know I have options of kicks that I can just grab, slide on and go. Due to this alone, my collection is growing at a rapid pace, so let’s jump straight into how we got to this point.
SNEAKER START GUIDE/MUST-HAVES
A few of you guys have actually dm’d me and asked where do you even start with building your collection. From my experience in retail and from having my own collection I felt like it was best to give some tips I have learned over the years:
- Download All the Apps/Enter Raffles – Go ahead, stop right here and download the SNKRS app and Adidas Confirmed app. All finished? Alright let’s keep on going! These are the main apps that David and I, along with several other sneakerheads, use to enter in raffles for shoes that we think are fire. Sometimes David and I even enter for shoes that we really aren’t feeling just to see if we can win and trade that shoe for something that we really want.
- Follow IG Pages – There are countless IG pages that share upcoming shoe releases (two of my favorites are @kicksonfire and @cnkdaily). If you are really interested in growing your sneaker collection, I suggest follow these pages or others that you may find to keep your ear to the streets on upcoming drops and raffles.
- Find YOUR Favorite Styles/Brands – Finding what styles work for you will take some trial and error, but you have to give different brands a try to find what works for you just like you would clothing for example. Like I said I grew up as a Jordan girl, but I start trying out Yeezys when I was gifted with a pair on my 20th birthday and I have been in love with them ever since! They work for me and are so comfortable in my opinion and with learning that I was able to expand my shoe collection to be more than just Jordans and Nikes.
